What is election by acclamation for an HOA?
Election by acclamation happens when the number of qualified candidates is equal to or fewer than the open board seats. Instead of printing ballots and holding a vote count, the association can seat those candidates directly, following a required nomination and notice period first.
Can our association vote by acclamation instead of holding a full election?
Yes, if your governing documents allow it and the number of nominees does not exceed the open seats. Our Acclamation Service package handles the nomination period, candidate verification, and required notices so the process stays compliant with your CC&Rs.
What's included in a full HOA election service package?
Our Complete Election Package covers the call for candidates, ballot printing and mailing, receiving and holding returned ballots, attending the meeting to conduct the vote count, and delivering certified results and storage of election materials for one year, as required by law.
How is HOA ballot counting handled to stay compliant?
Ballots are received and held unopened until the meeting, then counted in front of the board or membership by an independent inspector with no conflict of interest, and the results are documented and reported in writing afterward.
Can our HOA offer electronic voting alongside these packages?
Yes. Under AB 2159, associations can offer secure electronic voting on its own or combined with paper ballots. Ask about adding electronic voting to any of the four service packages above.
